Are you a single busy professional who just don’t have time for the hassles and demands of a real relationship? Is your social life insanely popular but sometimes you don’t want to attend all those boring black tie galas alone? Great news! You can now rent a “boyfriend” from BFE – a date booking platform that brings you hand-picked men that fit your lifestyle.
BFE, which stands for Boyfriend Experience (is that a porn?) is an invite-only platform that matches you with your very own “public boyfriend”. I say public boyfriend because you can only act like you’re together in public: galas, weddings, your family reunion, etc. You cannot and I repeat canNOT have sex with your BFE. Apparently, it’s not an escort service and apparently your life is not a movie.
You may be asking, “Shiela, did you sign up?”. No I did not, but all of this sounds so intriguing so I did a little more research. Basically, the creators have likened BFE to a hotel booking service (umm). Before you can do anything, you must first be invited to use the service. How you will get an invite? I’m not sure. I assume, you’ll have to convince a friend/existing client that you really need this.
Once you’re in, you can browse the existing boyfriends based on criteria(hobbies, skills, age, educations, etc) – just like picking pizza toppings. When you’ve find the boyfriend of your dreams, you can request a date – don’t forget to include the date specifics. The boyfriend will then very promptly respond to you (duh cause he’s perfect) and if you both agree on the date, you can g’head and pay through PayPal. I think it’s around $75/ hour. Apparently, you can put a price on a good man.
A “perk” is that you can post reviews of your date/boyfriend on the website. Funny how my girlfriends and I always wished to have a potential boyfriend rating system to exist, and here it is.
Sounds amazing right? I’m not too sure yet. I still have so many questions! What if you fall in love with your BFE, can BFEs sleepover (cuddles are essential), what if the BFE’s have GFs IRL – and she sees us together? Dramaaaa! And of course my biggest questions of all is how is this service ok, and yet if women were the ones being referred to as “similar to a hotel booking service” all of Toronto will no doubt be up at arms. Why do we have such a big bias in protecting the genders. I am a feminist. I support the protection of women, but I believe that men deserve the same respect. This non-escort service brings only more confusion to our double standard society.
At the end of the day, people will have different opinions on the matter, I for one am looking forward to seeing how Toronto will react to the service. Head to their website to see for yourself and let us know what you think about the matter on the comment section below.
BFE is currently operating in Toronto, New York city, Montreal, Miami, and Los Angeles. Looks like the boyfriend store is real after all.
