“I love meeting so many different people and getting a little window into who they are. It gives me a chance to tell their unique story and get them as excited about the photography as I am! It’s also incredibly rewarding to create something that will help people achieve their goals and express their passions, or to keep close to their heart for a lifetime.”
Whenever I network with someone new, I always make sure to ask them how they realized that their chosen career is the one. I met Andrea Stenson from Stenson Photography a few weeks back and her answer was something I think most of us can relate to. Andrea grew up as that kid that carried a camera everywhere she went, and in those times cameras were bulky and heavy. So you can imagine the dedication! She learned how to shoot in film (remember that?) which I think is important in understanding how photos are made. They do not just come from your Iphone apparently.
Andrea grew up capturing moments and learning how to tell people’s stories through her images. However, back then photography to her was just a passion and a hobby. Like most of us, she went through the journey of trying to find her career path. What she didn’t realize then was that she was on the right path all along.
And with the support of her two entrepreneur parents, Andrea jumped in the water and pursued photography full time. She travelled, studied photography, and worked in a head shot and fashion studio in England for a few years before eventually coming home to Toronto in 2009 to set up her studio.
Stenson Photography specializes in creative portraits and business spotlights. Although Andrea keeps a very busy schedule, her genuine love for photography drives her to continuously find the time to learn new techniques and work on creative projects.
I recently worked with her for a shoot. I was able to immediately tell that this is her passion. Her energy was contagious and it helped brought out my best cheeky smiles! Andrea listened to me babble on about blogging and she created a shoot that is an absolute reflection of Small Girl Medium City! She is also keen in sampling new techniques and patiently explained them to me. I learned so much about photography during our one hour shoot!
