There are a few people in this world that I trust more than my Esthetician. There is an unspoken bond between the client and the professional. She’s seen my real “I woke up like this” look, listened patiently to my ramblings, and has the weird magical power to help me feel so relaxed. A trip to see her has truly become the definition of “me time”.
I stopped by Yorkville a few weeks ago to check out the new home of LKM Artist Studio. What I thought would have been a brief chat with the owners of LKM and the Brow House became a 2 hour visit. I walked into those doors a slightly clueless girl – jealous of Cara de Levine’s eyebrows and walked out feeling snazzy about my own brows/lashes and a new appreciation of my estheticians!
Whatever happened during those two hours is a sacred secret. Just kidding – I met Kira and Leslie! These two dynamite ladies are behind the adjacently located LKM Artist Studio and the Brow House. Leslie is a professional beauty educator and a veteran Makeup Artist and Kira is your eyebrow fairy godmother, founder, and owner of the Brow House – she also trained under Frank Toskan (Founder of Mac Cosmetics).
If there is anything that I am drawn to when it comes to people, it’s their passion for what they do. Kira and Leslie have a combined 30 years of experience in their fields and not only do they love what they do, but they are focused on client education. I sat down on Kira’s chair and she explained to me the science behind “growing the perfect brows”. Estheticians are life-savers but I think it’s also very helpful to know what’s going on with your body and to learn how to make what you have work for you!
Leslie was patiently waiting to do my eyelashes in the next room. Apart from using the regular mascara, I’ve never seen the hype of getting fake lashes – that is until I got my own from LKM! First of all, I think I almost blinded myself once trying to apply fake lashes – so I was a bit nervous/excited about this procedure. Beauty has taken such giants leap over the years. If you weren’t blessed with long luscious lashes, worry not my dear. You can get the same very realistic look at LKM! I couldn’t see what was happening cause my eyes were closed during the process but Leslie explained that she is applying “individual lashes” onto my real ones. I was told that you need a very seasoned professional to perform the procedure because glue in the eyes is painful. Leslie was great! I got way too comfortable and even sleepy during the process and when I woke up I had super long lashes!!! It was like the Spider-man overnight evolution. But instead of getting giant muscles, I got pretty lashes.
Leslie was so informative during the lash application process as well. Not only did she explained how to take care of my new lashes, but I also got to ask her about my nonsensical make up questions. I am by no means a Michele Phan, that’s why its so nice to be able to have a trusted professional answer my questions and give me tips about my daily beauty routine.
In addition to make up services, LKM also offers educational workshops for both amateurs and professional make up artists. So you can bring out your inner Michele Phan! She also carries a few of her trusted brands AND her own make up line! It’s a one stop shop!
After my appointment, I knew I had to write about it. There are a few venues in our city that cultivates a creative, fun, and beauty-based educational environment for women. Fortunately, LKM and the Brow House are part of that list! So what are you waiting for? Grab your girlfriends and vist Kira and Leslie at their Yorkville locations now!
Stay pretty! XO
