“Fashion Helps work to create opportunities for disadvantaged communities to acquire the technical skill that the fashion industry requires. Our partnership with a designer like Stephan Caras clarifies the importance of the skill that’s necssary to be successful in this industry.”
We recently had the pleasure of having Sheila McElrea, Creative Director of Fashion Helps on FIO. She has introduced me to the wonderful work they do at Fashion Helps. Voted as one of the top 5 Fashion non-profits in Toronto, this organization is focused on initiating partnerships with local designers to facilitate support of less fortunate communities in the city.
We are thrilled to be writing about and participating in their initiative and partnership with Stephan Caras! Caras is a Toronto based designer with more than 20 years of experience under his belt. In the past, he has participated in fashion weeks in Paris, New York, and Toronto and has designed for top labels such as Guy Laroche and Hermés.
Caras’ show last Friday was beyond! I couldn’t help my “ooohs and ahhhs” as I watch the models walk the runway. The collection is unmistakably Stephan Caras – beautiful and tall silhouettes, elegant plunging necklines, flirty backless dresses. I was awestruck!
By motivating Toronto’s influencers, Caras hopes to generate awareness for Fashion Helps. Front row attendees to his show have received a branded tank top in their gift bag and are encouraged to take selfies and hashtag #FashionHelpsxStephanCaras. For each post, Caras will make a generous donation to Fashion Helps!
Once again, Fashion Helps is running their program “This Is Me” – a program that ran in homeless shelters in 2014. This Is Me is an arts education program that helps homeless youths learn jewellery design and how to make leather belts and bracelets. Skills learned and creativity developed through this program will hopefully assist these kids in finding jobs and a brighter future.
Check out our faves from the Stephan Caras FW 2015 collection below and don’t forget to take a selfie/ hashtag #FashionHelpsxStephanCaras in your Fashion Helps tank for this very good cause!
