Every season, in the midst of the mayhem that is world Mastercard fashion week, industry insiders are invited to the tents to enjoy food, fashion and celebrate the talent of Canadian designers at the TFI: Press and Buyers Brunch.
Since 1987, Toronto Fashion Incubator aka TFI, has provided services to help support the development of many of our favourite Canadian designers and entrepreneurs.
Admittedly, this brunch is always one of my favourite events of the week! What makes this different is the fact that it is interactive; as you enter the space, each of the designers has their collection set up so not only can you see the clothing up close, you are able to feel the different fabrics and hear about the collection first hand from the designer. Not to mention there are nibblies. Like I said… best. event. ever.
New and note-worthy: I had the chance to chat with two newcomers this season.
First up, Mary Young – designer of the namesake women’s lifestyle lingerie and lounge wear brand. From the barely-there sheer bralettes, to the cozy Alpaca wool sweaters, the line is created and designed with the modern woman in mind. It’s all about simplicity and sexiness without having to sacrifice comfort and for that reason I cannot wait to try a few of the pieces out!
I also had the pleasure of meeting the Elias sisters, designer duo behind the line Eläma (@elamafur). From fur trims, to modern twists on the classic trench and the most luxurious vests, the entire line is utterly glamorous. Laughing, the sisters tell me people often say they are excited to see what the duo will be wearing into work each day. Both Rita and Rim easily convinced me that women can and should where these pieces as part of their everyday wardrobe!
