Some people get really dramatic over Fashion Week, and understandably so. It’s kind of a big thing! Just the other day, my friend was sort of freaking out because she couldn’t find the perfect black suede thigh high boots that would make or break an outfit next week…that friend is neither imaginary, nor me. Let’s change the subject.
It’s easy to accidentally put so much pressure on yourself and end up being stressed, tired, hungry, cranky, and ultimately forgetting what next week is really all about – celebrating Canadian Fashion and the people who are so passionate about it.
So here’s some tips on how to help you make the most of Fashion Week!
On What to Wear
I’m someone who lays awake in the middle of the night planning my outfit in my head for the next day, so I rarely never know what to wear. But granted, my planning skills may seem too intense for most normal people. What I can advise though is that when picking something to wear for next week, start with a piece that you LOVE and build your outfit around it. The amount of confidence that comes with wearing something you absolutely adore is astonishing!
Dress for yourself and everything else will be fine.
Your purse is your friend and consequently, other people’s too. Stash it with miniature versions of mints, a stain remover stick, lips stick or balm (Check out Rebel’s Refinery for their stylish Capital Vices skull balm!), business cards, some cashish, your debit/credit cards, IDs (for the Prosecco inside the tents of course), and most importantly your tickets for the show!
Charge It up!
Your Phone is vital this week – even more than usual. Charge that baby up before you leave and maybe bring a power cord just for good measure.
A line of well dressed and good looking people is ever present inside the tents. It’s recommended to get there about 30 minutes before the show to secure a good seat. If you think you’re too early, no worries! Wander over to the bar where the shelves are stocked with Kim Crawford Wines, Grey Goose Vodka, and other treats!
Better early than late!
Replenish And Hydrate
This one is very important! Not just for your health but also for your overall enjoyment of the shows. Running around is a usual thing. From back to back shows, to after parties, to backstage interviews, to meetings. Keep your energy up by having a good meal, and consistently hydrating – good thing Pellegrino is one of the sponsors! #lifesaver
Make New Friends (or as grown ups call it – Network)
The World MasterCard Fashion Week brings people with the same passion from all over the country together! What better time to make new friends – or as they say “Network”. Smile and engage in small talk. You never know who you’ll connect with!
Lastly, Enjoy Yourself!
Fashion is all about expressing yourself and how you feel. It’s one of the best forms of freedom! And we are dedicating a whole week to it. Absorb the creative energy around you, revel in the beauty on the runways and the street, don’t take things too seriously, go with the flow, and ultimately enjoy this!
I hope this list helps you even a little bit. See you in the tents!
